My Wedding

This may have been my most involved and lengthy project. My objective was to create all the signage and supplemental materials for My Wedding. This included everything from the Save the Dates, to signage directing our guests around the site, to our wedding cocktail menus. I didn’t initially plan to be this extensive, but once I began the process, a lot of the pieces made sense to the overall collection. My Wife Elissa wanted a Midcentury Modern-style design, so everything stemmed from her initial ideas and wish list. The ultimate goal was to honor her vision while integrating my individual style into each piece.

I researched and established a color palette that was applied to all the designs across the board. Background imagery was accompanied by classic midcentury iconography to compliment the overall theme. Every subsequent composition was informed by its predecessor, from the Custom Vans Shoes, to Invitations, down to the Guestbook created from both Elissa and my own Collage Art. I worked endlessly and sleeplessly through school, two part time jobs and taking care of our dog Beans (who appears on various pieces). This extracurricular passion project on top of my daily life was possibly the hardest period of my life.

What made this project special was working at my friend Josh’s print shop, Pacific Sun Printing, which gave me complete autonomy to experiment and print literally everything I could think of. Having that resource & unwavering support fueled the entire process. Seeing everything in my hands and set up the day of was an accomplishment I never imagined I could ever handle, let alone design almost entirely by myself. It was equally exhausting and rewarding.

My wife may have been the hardest client I’ve worked for to date! But to her credit, she knew exactly what she wanted, and pushed me to the edges of my creativity. Sharing that experience with her taught me a lot about the client-designer relationship. I’m still beaming proud months later.
